i live in illinois. last year we had our transmission rebuilt. 1 week later the trans blew up violently in wisc. the trans shop towed it back at no charge per warranty. they fixed it again and thus ensued 7 months of breakdowns. the trans shop was in our town, but they had no builder there at the time. the guy who owned this shop also owned another shop in another town and rebuilt the trans there. after the 7th time in for repair, he said we needed a new computer brain for 400 dollars. had to pay or no car. but he refused to return old parts as per their contract. finally took elsewhere and found wires being hit by fan and shorting causing all problems. have picture and 450 dollar bill. have sent certified letter. talked to their lawyer who subsequently quit. cannot get anyone to return calls.

repair work

You could hire an attorney to write them a letter. That often get the attention of merchants. You could also take them to small claims court and sue for breach of warrantee.

However, They have probably violated the Illinois Automotive Repair Act and therefore the Illinois Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business Practices Act. The Attorney General of Illinois enforces that act; therefore, you can put in a complaint. Here are the CONSUMER FRAUD HOTLINE numbers: Chicago 800/386-5438; Springfield 800/243-0618; Carbondale 800/243-0607
