What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Colorado

I hired a man, Jose, to cut down trees on a vacant lot I own. I paid him most of the money and would have paid him in full (when job was complete) but he disappeared and didn't finish the job. I received a phone call from a man who says Jose rented a truck from his company (without my knowledge) to haul away the downed trees. This trucking company owner called me to say he hasn't been paid $1800 from this guy and that we need to pay it or he'll put a lien on our property. I never signed a contract with this trucking guy so do I need to pay him too? I already paid the man I hired for the job.
The man I hired has now vanished and cannot be located.

Any advice would be appreciated.
