What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Florida

Our 18 yr old daughter recently felt independent enough to "move out". She is still attending high school. She found herself in an awkward living situation and decided to try to buy a car so she could get to school and work on her own. She ended up at a used car dealership. She showed up at our place in tears, as all the things that were working when she got it 2 days ago are suddenly not. The windows don't work, the oil and maintenance lights came on already, the gas and brake pedals stick, and she feels unsafe. She paid $500 cash and gave them her newly acquired driver's licence (that she just got a couple weeks ago), her ss #, and agreed to pay monthly for 2 yrs. Unfortunately she signed an "as is" contract, as she is young and naive. We are baffled at the lack of ethics used for any business to actually sell any vehicle to someone in high school with no proof of income, no cosigner, no credit! Are there any rights for her?

she has the right to learn a very expensive lesson.

always get her own mechanic to look over said vehicle when purchasing a used vehicle.

all used vehicles are an "as is" sale.

used vehicle lots can sell cars to college students, college graduates, and even bill gates a car with no proof of income, no co-signer and no credit. perfectly legal.

We explained all these valuable lessons of course! It is understandable that she wouldn't get her downpayment back. The gray area is if she takes it back or it gets repossessed from lack of payment, do they have the right to continue collection on the rest of the financed money? Does that cancel out her ability to get loans for college? Catch 22!!!!

No, she does not. You could try researching the "Lemon Law", maybe she could.

The lemon law does not apply in the op's situation. Before making a red-herring recommendation, please do a bit of research.

(FYI: I checked that possibility out before I even read the first reply.)
