My husband leased a vehicle from a dealership back in November of 2005. Going through a divorce he let the payments slide. Just between us I agreed to help him with it and take responsibility of the payments, however, When I went to go about redoing the insurance I noticed that the VINT numbers were totally off. The contract was drawn up with the wrong vint number. I went to the local tag office and they notified me that the vehicle I was driving around was registered to another person and vise versa. The vehicle has been parked for a while now and we have no idea what to do about it. We have contacted the Dealership and it seemed as if they were trying to sweep everything under the rug. The General Manager was a little rude and we decided it wasn't in our best interest to tell him anything else. The lessee would rather much get out of this contract altogether. My question is ...CAN HE, this is already affecting his credit. We are stumped as to what to do or NOT to do. This other person who has the vehicle registered to us probably has NO idea yet. When we took insurance out on the vehicle we thought was ours...we actually took insurance on hers..and vice versa.What is the name of your state?
