Building a website

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

Hi,

I've been contracted to build a website, and been given templates and images to put on the website

but as it turns out, the images have watermarks (although i cant figure out what it says, i can clearly see it)
and the templates are not free to be used publically, one has to pay for the rights to use them.

The person who contracted me, told me he bought the said images and templates.

But the files he gave me to use, have hidden files in them, stating which "free downloading" site they were downloaded from, and when.

Also he has not provided any proof he got permission/ rights to use this material.

Can i get into trouble if i complete this work?

What country are you in?

If you are outside the U.S., this site can't help. If you are in the U.S., are you planning on retaining any rights to the work after you create it, are you going to host the work, or are you doing this as a work for hire, where the other guy will have all of the rights to the work?

Work for hire, he pays per content produced.
I'm not planning to retain any copy rights, if he pays me. I'm not planning to launch the site if he doesnt.
he is planning to launch the site, for the site to become a business
The site will be hosted on a server that does not belong to me

What country are you in? Can't give any advice without knowing that, and what state you are in.

You will need to find someone to give you legal advice in your own country, someone who is familiar with the laws in your country.
