What is the name of your state? NC

Would you be at risk of infringement if you altered a well known fitctional character for use in a logo (with no reference to the known name)? Although altered, the character would still be recognizable.

My guess is that it would be a problem - but I wanted to get additional advice.

It could be a big problem. Especially if the character belongs to Disney, they are very very active in persuing copyright infringement cases.
