What is the name of your state? Florida

Does copyright exist in famous paintings by old masters? For example, if I wanted to include art by DaVinci, Van Gogh, Raphael, etc. on a website, or create t-shirts or other items, are images like these considered public domain? I understand that some paintings made in the 20th century may be copyrighted, but what about art made before 1900? Can a museum own a copyright on a painting made in France in 1884?
