Displaying Logos on websites

What are the international legal implications of dispalying other company logos on my website?
Most company logos can be downloaded from the owners websites and loaded onto any other website.
If the website is for promoting the logo and owner is there any problem?
Do I need thier permission?
Is it possible to face litigation?
Any help would be appreciated.

What country are you in?

EDIT: Never mind, I just read that your location is Scotland. Sorry, this site is for US law only. You say it's international, but the problem with that is that if anybody wished to bring legal action against you, they would have to do so in Scotland using the Scottish courts, meaning that, really, only the laws in Scotland apply to you. Because of this, we cannot help you.

Logos on websites

Thank you for your information and help.

What is the general law regarding the displaying of other company logos in the USA ?

Maybe the Scottish law is not that different as copyright infringement etc is usually at an international level.

Why do they have such an extended list of counties on this website if it is only for US law?

Thanking you in advance
