I have a flash unit for my camera, which normally uses internal
AA batteries; however, the flash unit provides a connection
to allow an external battery pack to be used.

The flash unit was designed to only work with an optional
external battery pack, which is available from the same
manufacturer; i.e., the terminal on the flash unit is unique
and the connector on the cable from the battery cable is
unique.

If I take a third-party battery pack, and make a mold of the
terminal on the flash unit, and make my own battery cable,
am I infringing on any patents, assuming the flash unit is
patented and the external battery pack is patented? If
the connection is patented, would such a connection require
its own patent, separate from the patenting of the flash unit or
external battery pack?

Thanks in advance

Is the cost of the battery adaptor that much that you would go through the hassle of making your own? As long as it is for your own personal use, there is no problem. You cannot sell it though.
