What is the name of your state? Texas

Have been considering starting a business transferring music recorded on vinyl albums and tape to cd. Understand that I am not charging for the music itself, only for the transfer of the data to a cd format. I would not be seeking music on the internet and recording it, only transferring music from one form of media to another, something which people could do themselves, should they have the time and equipment to do so. Most of the data being transferred is no longer available, either in vinyl or cd format.

Is this an infringement of the copyright laws?

As long as it is for personal use only. You cannot sell, give away, or distribute the music to others, that would then be a violation of the copyright laws.
