I operate a company based in New York City. We post news on our website, which is reprinted from other sources (press releases, industry publications, newspapers around the world, etc.).

When these articles are posted, they are posted in their entirety, and the source from where they came is always cited and a link back to their website is also provided.

I recently was contacted by one of the publications telling me that it was illegal for me to use the articles from their website/magazine, even though I have cited their publication as the source, and linked back to their website.

My question is - can I post these articles, or is it illegal for me to do so? Do I need to put a summary in, then link to their site for complete details, or can I do none of the above?

I think the question is:

do you intend to make money from this site? If yes then you have to get permission.

if its a personal site, then they cant do anything unless your site has porn on it.
