hello. I would like to know if I can be sued if I include someone's name in a book? For example if I wrote a book about a friend and included his entire name and minor details without informing the family?

Fiction or non fiction. If it is non fiction and the facts given are the truth, there is nothing that can be done. This is protected by the First Amendment.

:) Oh great. Thanks. Yes, actually it's more like a memoir and yes non fiction. My friend died and most likely I will not bother the family with anything pertaining to this, so I wasn't sure if later in the event they saw the book and his name in there if they could sue me ! Thanks
