Hello everyone,

How important is it to register the exact wording for a slogan trademark? Let's say **** protected "Just do it."... Does the protection also cover "Just. Do. It."?

Or the other way around... Assumed Sony protected "Make. Believe.". Does the protection cover "Make Believe", as well?

Thanks!

What is the name of your state, schlabber, or, if not in the US, what is the name of your country?

Trademark law centers on consumer confusion. Generally the addition or subtraction of periods will not change the protection offered a name or a slogan.

"Just Do It" is protected for the variations to it that might cause a consumer to believe the origin of the product or service is N!ke.

Do you have a personal legal concern that gives rise to your question, or are you just a curious sort?

If it is REALLY important to you to try to trademark a parody of someone's slogan...You should consult with an EXPERT ATTORNEY in this field. ;)

The state is Florida. I am sorry... it is not directly a legal concern. We had this question in our cohort and were arguing about it and couldn't find out the truth.

You have found out the truth now. I hope that ends the argument. :)
