What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? New Jersey

I have a copyright on a accelerator pedal reinforcement assembly. How can I be sure toyota does not copy my idea?

You could file an injunction enjoining them from using your idea. I don't know if it would fly, but that's the only legal option I'm aware of that can prevent an action before it occurs.

A copyright doesn't provide functional protection for inventions. A patent would if it were novel and unobvious. Of course, Toyota has a fix, and you can guarantee at the number of vehicles involved it's as cheap as it can possibly be made.

But, if you want to pursue this, you need to get at least provisional patent application in. This will allow you to start having your device out there while protecting your patentability.
