What is the name of your state? Colorado...bought in Florida

My wife's Nissan Armada caught fire while mer her and the 4 kids were in the car. Fortunately we were able to all get out of the car and a fire fighter was driving by and put the flames out.

The dealership called and said that the body control module shorted out and that is what ultimitley led to the fire. They saidd they have the parts in to replace and will replace them and go from there...

The Dealer could not tell me why the fail safes didn't work ie like the fuses blowing....they have no idea why it happened and why the cars fail safe measures didn't kick in or alert us.

I am very worried to put my wife and kids in this car. Her legs could have been severely burned had she not reacted so quickly.

Do you think it is worth it for me to take this up with Nissan and ask that they take this car back?

I would most definately be talking with Nissan. The fact that it will be taken car of means you will probably get nothing more than the repair but it is something they definately need to know.

I would file with the the NHTSA as well. They keep track of this type of thing and mandate recalls if needed.NHTSA complaint file

What sort of fail safes do you think should have kicked in? The "body control module" (whatever that is) may not even be fused. Even if it was, the current that caused the fire could have been below the amperage of the fuse.

Even so, I wouldn't get back in that car until they can tell you EXACTLY what happened and EXACTLY why it won't happen again. Maybe you could write to the Car Talk guys, I read their column on their web site www.cartalk.com and they have dealt with this kind of situation before. They have a bulletin board there too :)
