Air Conditioning Failure

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Texas

My A/C unit, Carrier, went out. Upon having an expert look at it, he said the compressor (which is under warranty) is out. Was informed that the replacement part to make my unit work again, is not available until July 6th and I have two people ahead of me. Was told by Carrier the reason for the long delay on the part is "This part never stops working"

So...I have a house that is 90 degrees inside. I will most likely need to check into a hotel for at least the next month...kennel my dogs...just so my family can have Air Conditioning in the hot Texas summer.

Do I have any recourse?

THank you in advance.

Buy a new heat pump/central air unit.

Buy some window units and some fans.

Have an attic fan installed.

Stuff happens and it's not always someone else's fault.

Is anyone's health actually going to be negatively impacted if they have to spend a month in an unairconditioned house? No?

I realize it's uncomfortable, but discomfort is not actionable. And believe it or not, lots of houses don't HAVE air conditioning.

Also buy some dehumidfiers.

(Note to CJ: A lot of houses, especially in your neck of the woods, don't have air conditioning. Not having a/c in southern states is unbearable. Kinda like not having heat in northern states where it gets really, really cold. )

I grew up in a house w/out central air. I remember the thermometer in the living room regularly reaching 90. We survived.

I don't even turn the AC on in my house until the inside temp is routinely 82 and NOT cooling off at night w/the windows open.

AC wasn't even invented til 1902, and plenty of people lived in the deep south then. OP will survive a month without it.

Would be cheaper and less of a hassle if you would find a rent to own place, rent a unit for the month and then take it back when your part comes in.

You may be able to see if you can find the same part from another company and order it and see if the current company will compensate for it. It may work, it may not.

I don't see how it's the company's fault though. These things happen that's why they give warranties.

On second thought like the OP, I'd consider moving out for a month too because the HOA doesn't allow window units.

82 degrees is very comfortable.

There's a diffence between 90 with a lower humidity and 90 with almost 100% humidity. If I were the OP, I'd be getting a couple of small window units, blocking off parts of the house, staying in the a/c, and putting fans & dehumidifiers in the rest of the house with the windows closed in those rooms. That would be more cost effective than staying in a hotel/motel.

You don't have to tell me about humidity in Missouri/Kansas. Perhaps you've never been here in July/August, but it's disgusting. I get the discomfort. I think it's absurd for OP to even think that suing the company for not manufacturing parts to HER whims is an appropriate remedy for her discomfort.

Haven't been in Missouri/Kansas in July/August, but been in Iowa, Michigan, and Massachusetts in July/August.

Last time I was in MA was in August a couple of years ago. Everyone was complaining about the heat and it was only in the mid to low 80's.
The pool wasn't heated, so it was too cold to go in it.

Concur on the OP ridiculous whims 100%. Have a good night, CJ.
