Alcatel-Lucent Mini USB Car Charger

I recently purchased an Alcatel-Lucent VPCALCUSB Mini USB Car Charger from Macy's. I plugged in my phone and it charged it just fine. This worked for a couple days. I have an HTC 8525 cell phone. On the third day of use the phone was plugged into the charger and simply turned off and wouldn't turn back on. It's not the batter, it cannot be charged by any other means, and it won't turn on anymore.

Did Alcatel burn-out my phone?

What should I do about this?

Have you tried soft and / or hard restart? Battery swap?
