To all the lawyers

To all the lawyers on this forum:

Would you EVER give one of your clients a letterhead from your office with nothing on it but your signature??? Leaving it blank for them to fill in the rest?

I am curious if this is some kind of stupid common practice because I know someone who's lawyer did this.

My response:

Yes, it's an extremely common practice for lawyers to give their clients blank, signed, letterhead.

The reason this is done is so we lose our licenses to practice just a little bit faster than normal. Also, we do this so that our bank accounts will be emptied by allowing our clients to turn that letterhead into a Power of Attorney. There are so many more uses, and it just makes our lives just a little more interesting.

Hope this helps.

Why wouldn't they? Don't you often sign blank checks and give them out as cards?
