My wife and I have a prepay dental plan that, is my understanding, pays the dentist a certain amount per month based upon the dental plans number of clients placed at that office. Therefore, the more patients the dentist treats each month and the more extensive the treatment, the more money the dentist loses. My wife had a pain in her tooth and went to our new dentist. He decided to extract the tooth and then stated that a partial (removable retainer) would be $90 while a fixed bridge would be at least $1,500 (porcelain over metal). Per our dental plan, the discounted price that we are to pay for a fixed bridge is $600. However, the dentist and the dental plan state that because the dentist has recommended a partial, the fixed bridge is elective and we have to pay the elective prices. My wife is under 30 years old and in good health with healthy teeth. She doesn't want to have to remove a retainer two to three times a day for over 50 years. My question: Is there a way to find out when a dentist should recommend / diagnosis a fixed bridge instead of a partial. I feel like we are subject to bait and switch. The dentist extracts the tooth and then requires we pay him thousands of dollars to fix it. Thank you VERY much for your assistance. |
