| Tennessee-- I went for a routine visit for fillings and during the anesthesia process a nerve was struck causing numbness to the left side of my jaw and tongue. It was like that for approximately 3 months. I went to an oral surgeon to make sure that a nerve was damaged and he concluded it was. now after one year most of the feeling of the numbness has subsided, but I can still feel slight numness on my tongue. i sent a certified letter requesting process on their insurer's part for compensation. but they sent a letter back stating that certain risks are a part of any dental procedure and they would not entertain any settlements of any kind. i feel this is ridiculous stating that they are not responsible for loss of sick time and visits to the oral surgeon and numbness i still experience to this day. Is there more i can do?? |

| My advice is let it go. I have been numb since Feb 1999 due to an injection I rcvd when going for a dep scaling. I just went to court this July and LOST. The jury found that it was indeed just an unfortunate risk. Seems as long as the injection is commonly used, well then who cares about the out come. In hind site my lawyer should have sued for lack of consent rather than negligence. But here is the kicker... I just rcvd a letter today telling me that the dentist who has made me numb for the rest of my life is now suing me for $11,000.00 in legel fees.!!!!! What a world. Now that have vented I hope that you will have a full recovery.. most people do. I have had alot of complications and I know how you must feel. If you want to talk feel free to e amil me at nyfl123 on aol. Stephanie |
