Do I have a case?

What is the name of your state? Washington

After a very complicated pregnancy I went in early to have my baby. I had to have an epidural because of the pain and because we were inducing the birth in a different way, (a balloon) you don't want to know. Anyway, this was my second child and I know I am a hard person to give an epidural to so after signing the papers and telling them how hard I was to stick they sent someone in, the problem was that no one told me she was a student or I would have asked for the actual anesthesiologist, I had to be totally anesthetized with my first child because someone with 22 years experience couldn't get the needle in right. I didn't find out that this person was a student until the middle of the night when they sent someone in to do the epidural again because only half my body was numb. Also I told her it hurt when she left it in. This man had 30 years experience and had to stick me 3 times to get it right. Anyway after a month now I still can hardly walk and have the most amazing pain in the right side of my body that sometimes I can't even stand up. If my baby had lived I wouldn't be able to take care of her and there is no way I can hold a job. I should also mention that I didn't work at the time and that this was a military hospital. My husband just got out of the airforce so we don't have any insurance anymore to take care of the problems they caused. Anyway any advice would be helpfull. Thank you. I thought I should add the exact thing the second anesthesiologist said to me after I told him that I had told the first girl that it still hurt in my leg.... He said "Yeah she's a student you can bet we will be talking about this later" You can imagine my shock at that moment.

Hi Dawng26. I'm sorry you're experiencing these problems. I think with the issues involved and the complexity of your case, you would need to consult with a medical malpractice attorney (more than one if need be) to get an evaluation of this.

I have attached some URLs on epidurals that speak to the procedure itself, the benefits, risks, etc.

Wishing you the best. Do call an attorney's office.

I believe you have good reason to see a malpractice lawyer. You can and should sue the US military (Army, Navy, Air Force, whatever). You are supposed to be told if you are being treated by someone who is not a licensed medical doctor. Induction of labor is prohibited in many countries where medical care is often better than ours.
I have no idea why you had an epidural for delivery except that your induction may have caused some problems. You also say you lost your baby. Was that something that happened before you went in for induction? I suspect your baby died during labor because of the induction. Fetus injury is the usual outcome of induced labor.
Your recital of events points to several instances of medical malpractice. You can find a good lawyer in Seattle or Tacoma. Go see a couple. Be sure you talk to a lawyer after lunch. You don't have to like your lawyer. Yoiu want some old guy who hates everyone to go after the Air Force.

Thank you for taking the time to reply to me. Actually losing the baby was because her kidneys were enlarged and cystic and a genetic test after she was born showed she was missing a chromosome 45x disease. Also my water had broke on Christmas day so she didn't have room to grow and wasn't making more fluid. So that thank goodness was not their fault. I had to be induced because when I went into the doctors I had a fever and my blood pressure had skyrocketed another reason I had to have the epidural was to get my blood pressure down. They assumed I had an infection then too. Actually I am not upset I had to have her early I am just upset that they didn't tell me a student was working on me if you know what I mean. And of course now I'm upset that I can't walk or sit or roll over in bed. Anyway, thank you again for taking the time to reply to me.

Hello! I am surprised that you were given an epidural to lower your blood pressure. I was told when they gave me an epidural that they had to watch my blood pressure because it can cause it to go up. They checked my blood pressure every 15 minutes. I am very sorry that you lost your baby.
