Doctor leaves towni am a 49 w male . been a diabetic for about 12 yrs. The dr. i have been seeing suddenly left the state. my prop. is that he did not ask what dr. we wanted be refered to .he just sent all records to another dr. this dr. wants us to pay for my medical records. i want to see a different dr. because i dont like the dr. he sent my records to. the dr. i am going to start seeing wants copies of records should i have to pay for my own records? |

| The physical records belong to the doctor. The information contained in them belongs to you and you have a right to review them in his office when it is mutually convenient. If you want copies of the records he is permitted a "reasonable" charge to cover copying costs, time for clerk, mailing fees. As a professional courtesy, if you have selected a doctor you prefer, he will send those records to the doctor. You will have to sign a request to release the records. |
