ETS negligence jeopardizes our futures

We have taken the GRE exam which is REQUIRED by ALL graduate schools in the US, and ETS, which administers the exam, has misplaced all the answer sheets from our test center from that test day. There is still a small hope they will find and score them. The university deadlines have already expired, however. ETS has so far failed to inform us of the difficulties in locating our answer sheets. Our entire future depends on the admissions committees' decisions which are just BEING MADE as the ETS delays with this essential information for our application. The financial and psychological damage caused by their negligence is immeasurable, since the entire application procedure can go to waste and our chances of being admitted as well.
They have unofficially indicated to their local representatives that if answer sheets are not found, they will offer us two options: our money back or another testing in a couple of weeks. Either of these will probably not do much good with the admissions committees at this point.
We would like to stress that we did the GRE on time for the results to reach the universities, and if ETS had contacted us we would have probably even had time to do the test again.
What can we do? What are our rights?
