Question

faulty oil filter

What is the name of your state? Arizona
My boyfriend put a STP oil filter on his truck about 3 months ago. The other day it blew apart. Draining all oil from his truck. which now no longer runs. A certified machanic said he had never seen anything like this. Do I file a claim through Auto Zone? Call STP? Or get an attorney? Help!! I have my receipt. A estimate from mechanic, and actual oil filter.

I have heard of this on a few occasions. It is due to the oil pump in the engine producing too much oil pressure. This is caused by one of two things, an oil pump full of sludge or a plugged pressure relief valve. What type of engine is it and how many mile were on the engine? You can call STP and see what they have to say. They will probably want the engine examined by an independant mechanic (on your dime too) before they will make a decision.

I have already had a mechanic examine it and write his findings as well as damage caused and an estimate for repairs. So just contact STP? or file a claim through Auto Zone, or go with a personal attorney? Thank you for any information. Tina
