Felony injury, SSI, Paxil

I'm from Oklahoma. In 1997, I was prescribed Paxil, had all of the horrible phsycological side effects, and ended up being shot by a Police Officer. I have filed a suit against the maker of the drug just this year. But my question is: I have a paralized hand from the incident, and I was not able to recieve SSI because my injury happened while I was in commision of a felony. That was before I learned that the Paxil was to blame for my eratic behavior. Could I ask the SSI panel for another hearing, and do you think an exception could be made in my case, since prescription drug side effects were involved?

Hell no I'm not in jail. This is just a summary of the story, there is quite a bit to it. I still have a bullet in my neck, surgery scars, and major nerve damage in my chest. I am having a terrible time trying to support myself. I would like some actual advice on what steps I should take to recieve disability. Thankyou.

I just can't find any information on Paxil that states it may cause persons taking it to experience an increased risk of being shot and paralyzed by a police officer due to the medication's causing the person taking the drug to commit acts of felony.
Now, if you've got the literature to substantiate that your acts were from the direct result of taking the medication, and if you were able to use this information to successfully defend your actions and thereby be found not guilty of committing the act of felony, then maybe you've got something to go on. However, if you were not able to use this defense successfully, and you were found guilty of a felony for reasons other than due to Paxil's evil side-effects, then I don't see how you're going to convince SS otherwise.
If SS does not provide benefits for disabilities incurred during criminal activity, then it just doesn't provide benefits for your situation.
There are alot of people working with no hands, one hand, one leg, no legs, or more than one bullet lodged in them, etc. You just need to find some work that you can do--obviously, you can type and use a computer, so put those skills to use.
And, thanks for the original post--the way you worded it--it did indeed give me a good, hardy, tears streaming down my face laugh; everyone can use one of those now and then.

You're welcome for the laugh.

Use your head for just a minute. How many typing jobs are in demand for people who type 10 words a minute, by pecking at the keyboard with one hand? You don't know how long it took me to type this. This is just one of your ridiculous assumptions. Educate yourself sir.

Disabled people who work, do so by other abilities that they have. For instance, social skills. Not everyone has this.

Before you say something foolish like
"I just can't find any information on Paxil that states it may cause persons taking it to experience an increased risk of being shot and paralyzed by a police officer due to the medication's causing the person taking the drug to commit acts of felony.",
try actually looking for the information instead of blurting out something you know nothing of. A very simple search on a search engine will lead you to an abundance of information about Paxils effects on some people. Families have been killed from it, people have commited suicide, docile people have tried to run other people over with vehicles, calm, loving people have turned voilent, all kinds of stuff. I have had lawers from all over the country wanting to take on my case, it is going to pay big, but it will take a while.

Educate yourself before making yourself appear so foolish.

Whoa Luke,
ellencee certainly does not need me to defend her reply, so I won't.
Why don't you get one of those hot shot lawyers that are begging to jump on your Paxil case to handle your SS claim!!
C'mon Luke, use your head for just a minute!!

Well, you guys sure can dish out the smart comments, but you don't seem to be able to take them. Remember, I started this post as a legitimate question on SSI, and SSI ONLY, not as a request for personal opinions on a subject you know nothing about. If you don't have anything decent to say on the posted subject, then ignore my post. Dadrummer, my lawer has taken on my case on a contingency basis. They won't do that for a SSI hearing. I don't have the money for that right now. You both need to realize that there are circumstances that you know nothing about, and that you weren't asked to comment on that particular subject in the first place.
Remember, my first two posts were quite decent, despite your negative comments. You guys turned this into a pissing contest.
