Unhappy

I don"t want to let him get away with this

Florida.

My brothers court appointed (private) attorney failed to appear to 2 court dates. The first court date he had my brother sign a waiver (he did not have to appear) for the first date and for another court date 1 month later. When attorney failed to appear at first court date, judge set another date for 2 weeks later. Attorney did not appear at that court date either and did not phone, write, or in any way tell my brother that another court date was issued. He also did not tell us that he had not appeared at any of the court dates. Subsequently, an arrest warrant was issued for my brother, we found out through bail bonds office who called and asked what was going on. I told bail bonds office it had to be a mistake as my brother had waivers and we did not have a court appearance for the date he was inquiring about. We called attorney, bail bonds called attorney and he did not call back. 1 week later his wife called to say the court lost some paperwork and that they are known for that. She said we needed doctors letters (brothers) in order to present to court along with affidavit to dismiss warrant against him. We did as we were told. I called everyday to speak with attorney and he did not call back. His wife returned 1 phone call saying attorney filed affidavit in court and that they were waiting for an answer. 3 weeks later, attorney called saying my brother had to go to florida to appear before judge and that he would then present affidavit. He said he could not talk long because he had laryngitis. I did not believe it. I was extremely suspicious and asked why did my brother have to go to court as his wife said he filed affidavit, and that it takes time. He said judge wanted to seem him as she was under political pressure. Me and my brother go to florida, attorney is no where to be found. I called sheriffs office and my brother had to turn himself in. He is now sitting in jail, his bond revoked because of this lawyer. I found out then that attorney never showed up to any court dates. It has been 2 weeks and still attorney has not visited him in jail or has not returned any of my calls. He did see night judge and told what happened, judge said he has to contact his attorney or wait until next court date.
What can I do.

Hire a lawyer.

Edit: Let me add. If he had spent his money on hiring a lawyer instead of paying his money to a bailbond's man and then claiming to be an indigent to get court-appointed counsel, he wouldn't be setting in jail right now on a bond surrender.

I doubt that he could hire a lawyer with my $500 dollars. Most lawyers quoted me $10,000 and above.

I know public defenders dont get paid alot, but then again why be a public defender. And if he cant or does not want to do the job, then he should say so. He has my brothers future in his hands. I believe what he did is against the law, but then again I could be wrong and i am not a lawyer which is why i wrote to this post.

Most counties have a public defender office. Contact them.
Was your brother's lawyer chosen out of the meat rack by a judge? If so, tell that judge about the lawyer. The judge should appoint another lawyer for you.
When you talk to the public defender's office try to get another lawyer from that office. The office should know a dead beat when they see one, and should help you. This will give you two shots at a new lawyer.

I know someone once that took 2 shots at a new lawyer and missed. Both times.
