| Lost Placenta I live in Florida and gave birth to twins almost one year ago in my local hospital. It was a natural childbirth with no anesthesia - they came very suddenly. Per the usual procedure, the attending physician sent my placenta for pathology and zygosity testing after the delivery. For the next few weeks I called my own doctor, awaiting the results of the test. Finally, after 3 months, the doctor discovered that there was no record of this placenta in the hospital. They apparently lost it and could not explain how or why.
With all of the current interest in stem cell research, I find it particularly disturbing that a TWIN placenta - which is a double-sized, fused and unique organ - could simply disappear from a scientific setting. Do I have any basis for pursuing action against the hospital and/or the doctors? Thanks in advance for your time. |
