my husband suffers from manic depression. he has not been
well for the last eight months, i would say he his hypomanic. my children have not seen their father nor has
he called often. his psychiatrist has refused to accept any information i have wanted to give him about my husband. i do not know how he can adaquately treat my husband when he does not have any idea of what has really been going on. do i have any rights in regard to seeing that my husband is being properly treated? my children have been denied a father for the last eight months as he is obviously not well. What rights do i have as the spouse of
someone who is mentally ill. Does his dr. have any legal
obligation to accept information from a spouse of for that
matter from the children of the patient one of which is fourteen? please answer.

My response:

Unless your husband allows it, you have no right whatsoever to invade the privacy between doctor and patient - - even if you are his wife. No information in, and no information out, without prior approval from the person that holds the privilege of privacy - - and that's your husband.

Each of us, whether married or not, has the right to complete privacy to our mind and vicera when it comes to any form of medical or mental therapy.
