2 weeks before the month of September ended I was at the gym and began having strong abdominal pains, I ended up going home early that night thinking maybe it was due to female problems. The pain persisted and only began to get worse, I saw my family physician twice who prescribed me pills for arthritis and did not examine me. I also went into a local emergency room and spent an entire day undergoing tests and examinations only to be sent home telling me that there was nothing wrong. The following Monday I went in for an ultrasound on my stomach thinking that I had ovarian cysts, they said that was not the case but told me of no other problems either. That Wednesday I went into work and had to be driven home by a co-worker because the pain was so strong that I was unable to walk/drive on my own. My fiance took me again to my family physician where I began to have cold chills and was vomiting bright yellow subtances. She again did not examine me and sent me home with more arthritis medicine. That day I returned home only to lay in our recliner and try to relax thinking that I had the stomach flu. I remained in that chair for 3 days, during this time I was almost comatose due to the excrutiating pain that I was undergoing. Friday morning at 4am my fiance woke me up and begged me to walk to his car so that he could take me to the hospital, I was unable to even move my hand let alone get up and walk. The paramedics were called and I was rushed immediately to the hospital. From what I was told had I waited a few more hours, or taken more of the doctors prescription which was masking my pain I would be dead today. I was immediately took in for exploratory surgery and it was discovered that my appendix had burst and peritonitis had set into my entire abdomen. They immediately cut open my stomach and began to clean out the infection. I was severly dehydrated and in the process of rehydrating me my lungs collapsed. My exact diagnosis was Septic Shock Appendicits, as well as Peritonitis. During this whole ordeal things looked bad, doctors did not thing that I was going to make it, and said that had I not been a 21 year old healthy female that I would never have made it to the hospital. I would have died in that recliner at my apartment. My mother immediately contacted a lawyer regarding this and started the process for a malpractice suit, taking photos, and keeping a detailed timeline of events. After 2 months out of the hospital and several pictures sent, as well as the timeline the lawyer refused my case. I am unsure whether or not I should pursue it with another lawyer or leave well enough alone, my friends and family are all pressuring me to pursue this to make sure that the doctors who almost killed me know what they did and it never happens again, but I need to know if there is a reason that the first lawyer wouldn't accept the case....Any help is much appreciated.
