mediation cancellation advice please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What is the name of your state? va.

i was goint to mediation in federal court on defective products case. the defendant in the case decided at the last moment(2 days before) to cancel mediation proceedings. this is the first time i have filed a lawsuit and wondered if this is a ploy by defendant to rattle my nerves and either drop case or settle for minimum . his attorney was suprised by this also. has anyone encountered this tactic before and in your opinion what do you think the defendant is trying to do
