medical records withheld

What is the name of your state? Georgia

I was referred to a specific doctor by a disability advocacy worker more than one year ago. I made one visit to this doctor who at that time promised me that he would find a way to help me. I was never able to get an appointment with this doctor again. Usually I was only able to talk with his receptionist when I phoned, I did however speak with him on several occassions, all of which he told me that he still needed to "check on something" and he would "get back to me."

When I first visited this doctor, at his request, I brought in all of the medical records I had available at the time, including my x-rays. One set of records alone from a hospital cost me $85.00 to obtain the copies.

I have been trying to get these records back from him for nearly a year now. I have been put off and put off and put off. About a month ago his receptionist told me I would need to send a money order, not a check, for $10.00 to cover postage and they would then send my records to me. Last week she told me that my records weigh too much and they would need an additional $35.00 to send them to me. She said that alternately, she could go ahead and send the paper records and then see what it might cost to send the x-rays seperately, which I asked her to do.

Today when I phoned to see if the records had been sent yet, she now claims that they have nothing but the x-rays - that they do not have any paper records on me.

What can I do to get my personal records back from this doctor?
