misdiagnosis

Six years ago my sister-in-law, who lives in California, was told by her doctor that she had Lupus. He put her on Predisone, among others. Over the years she slowly got worse. She became a diabetic, had pneumonia over & over, congestive heart failure, kidney problems and many other severe problems. A month ago she went to the hospital for pneumonia and she had to have an emergency colostomy because according to the doctors, her colon was paper thin because of the long-term use of predisone. The hospital doctors didn’t think she would make it through the surgery because of the heart, pneumonia, no air in lungs, full of fluid, kidneys were failing, and other problems that were so bad. After the surgery they ran tests to see how far along her lupus was. They told her that the tests showed that she didn’t have lupus. Never did. Her regular doctor was wrong. She had severe symptoms of one thing or another everytime she saw him. He never did any follow-up tests to see how the lupus was progressing. He would just refill or give her more medications, (19 last count) She is home now, lives with all those medical problems and her oxygen tank. She will never be well. Her new doctor is slowly getting her off predisone. He says that the predisone could have killed her. It caused all of her problems. Can she sue her 1st doctor for the misdiagnosis? Thank you.

My heart goes out to her. Okay, basically this seems to be a pretty good medical malpractice case. But now, you must find a med mal attorney and go from there.
