needle stick due to faulty safety shieldHello, I am a Registered nurse who on Monday Aug. 6 was stuck with a dirty insulin syringe. The reason I am writing is that I was stuck due to trying to utilize the safety feature on the needle itself. This syringe has a safety shield which you flip up after use to prevent needle sticks. During this process the safety shield slipped and I was stuck in my left thumb. I completed all the Kaiser protocols and had blood drawn for testing as did the patient that I was giving the injection to. Now I must wait to find out results of HIV and Hepatitis tests. To say the least this makes me very nervous. Many nurses I have talked with have complained about this particular brand of insulin syringe. My question is: do I have a case for a lawsuit against the manufacturer of this insulin syringe? Thank you for your time and response, Kim Will RN Kimmy_girl_99@excite.com Vallejo, CA Last edited by kimmygirl; 08-14-2001 at 02:46 PM. |

| This is probably a products liability case. You need to take the syringe and go to see a products liability attorney.
