| In 1990 had oral surgery in Pennsylvania. I had a LeFort 1 maillary osteotomy to move my jaw up and back. My chin was moved forward, but my lower jaw was not.
Over the past 10 years my upper jaw has been 'wiggling' and decided to investigate when I noticed a hard lump near my nose.
My oral surgeon in Ohio says he will need to redo the surgery. For the following reasons:
There is a nonunion of bone in the maxilla and the scar tissue between the bones will continue to erode the bones, possibly causing the loss of my upper teeth. The scar tissue will need to be excised and a bone graft from my hip will need to be added. My current smile is 'buried', as a result of the past surgery which will be corrected with this surgery.
My lower jaw needs to be moved forward to allow for a correct bite and my chin will need to return to its original position.
My septum was deviated during the original surgery so will need to be corrected.
Two upper teeth were pulled prior to surgery that will now need to be implanted to correct my smile.
I have had little pain but my concern is the financial cost to me to have the surgery redone. My insurance will pay only certain percentages and I will need weeks from work to
recover.
Would I be able to recover these costs from the Oral Surgeon in PA? |
