severe burn from my espresso machine

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Texas

A few months ago I severely burned my wrist from boiling pressurized water that spewed out of the top of my espresso machine. My husband made an espresso and there was extra water left in there. There is not a light or anything telling you if it has water in it or not. I opened it to put more water in and the water blew my skin off. We rushed to the doctor and they cleaned it, wrapped it and it took about 2 months to heal. Now I just have a huge scar.

I had insurance. . .I'm doing fine now. At this point, I just want a new espresso machine from Mr. Coffee. My husband threw the old one in the back yard from anger over the burn. My question is, what should I write to the company to make this happen. I don't want money. . .just a machine. And a good one. . .that won't burn my wrist off.

If you'd like to see a picture of the burn, let me know. . .but it is gross.

Dear Mr. Coffee,

would you be so kind as to recommend an espresso machine to me? I used to have one of your Mr.Coffe espresso machines but apparently it was intended for double duty as a skin removal machine as it scalded my hand when I opened the top to refill it immediately after it had stopped brewing.

I am willing to pay (you put in whatever your price range is here).

signed,

I'm peeling for you in Texas

but I'll bet you are looking for something else, aren't you?

before you get all whoop ass on Mr. Coffee, do the instructions say anything about not opening the top within some period of time after the machine was run so the pressure would have a chance to subside?

I wouldn't expect anything from Mr. Coffee... not even an apology.

I have an espresso machine also and it clearly states in the instructions to be careful of the pressure in the machine and to wait an hour (or several hours... can't remember) before trying to remove the top to add/dump water.

The machine was not faulty... just the user.

5. Turn control knob to “OFF” and unplug from electrical outlet when not in use and
before cleaning. Allow to cool before putting on or taking off parts and before cleaning
the appliance.

15. DO NOT remove reservoir cap or brew basket until pressure is completely relieved.
