Slimey substance in soft drink

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? UT

My son came up to me panicked after taking a sip of a new can of Grape Shasta soda. After he took a sip, he felt something slimey in his mouth and he spit it out and it was whitish mucus with black spots in it. He and I were totally grossed out. I have the can with the mucus in it here beside me...is there any legal ramifications for Shasta for having this on the shelves for someone to drink...it almost looks like someon spit in it with black residue...I don't know...I didn't want to inspect it to closely as it made me really sick to look at it.

I hope you can help know what to do or what I should do.

Thanks,
mom in UT

Call the manufacturer and let them know of your findings. Aside from that, what can you expect ??? coupons for more soda

What did you do with the can? Was there still liquid inside?

The slimy stuff is congealed corn syrup, it can happen if the soda is old or gets warm. It will not cause any harm. The only legal ramifications for Shasta is to replace the defective product, your son suffered no ill effects and you had no out of pocket expenses such as a doctor bill. You may be surprised how generous companies can be when this happens, expect a few free cases of soda pop.

Therefore *I* take accountability, and I'm doing laundry for the wife, so tell them "heathens" to be home NOW! (there ain't no clean towels)

sometimes you just have to accept the value inherent to a cheap item and go with what you know works:

Hershey's syrup. Just don't accept a substitute because there aren't any.

Just don't wait for anything. Go straight to the [police and lodge a complain. Then go to the consumer forum website, and there also lodge a compliant, along with the FIR no of police complaint.

They must be punished.

I think you're the fourth or fifth person to ask that same question of that same poster....

I read his other posts. The wit and wisdom is simply underwhelming.

Ah, but is the consumer actually guaranteed that the grape will take on a specific form or consistency? A slimy grape is still a grape....thus grape slime might very well fall under the general heading of "grape". (I do think there's actually a kid's drink in England called Grape Slime, but that's besides the point)

Does a slimy grape - or grape slime - have less grape-ness?
