Which state do I sue in?

I am interested in filing a claim in small claims court. The state that I live in is New York. I heard that you can only file a lawsuit agianst a person or company in the state that they live or conduct or transact buisness in. When I further read up on the matter it stated that you can file a suit in the state that the company is conducting buisness in.I searched to see if the company had a division in New York and it does not.Does this mean that I can not go down to the court house in New York where I live and file suit.Also does doing buisness with me constitute as doing buisness in the state of New York.I am involved with this company as a consumer who signed up for a work a home buisness. If anyone could answer these questions I would appreciate it. The name of the company is leasecomm.They are located in Massachuettes.
