stroke following childbirth

When I had my son a year ago there were lots of complications. (Just for me, thank God - he's OK). The placenta would not come out. A Doctor was not present right away, I had a midwife. Lost 8 units of blood, had to have an emergency hysterectomy, and at some point had a stroke.
After surgery they had trouble waking me, I was unresponsive for about a day. I swelled up to about 3 times my normal size - my sister did not even recognize me. My one eye was swollen and pointing down and out.( Had to wear a patch for a month and a half to be able to see at all - severe double vision. )
Spent 3 days in ICU, then 2 more in hospital. Was released on a Friday and back in the ER the following Monday due to gallbladder problems.
Since then it's been one thing after another - I was just diagnosed with Herpes, Epstein-Barr virus, systemic candidiasis, and my hormones are completely out of wack. ( And this I find extra confusing because I was told that my ovaries were left to prevent exactly that.) On top of this we have the "regular" stuff like postpartum depression and sleep deprivation, insomnia and memory problems, incoordination and vertigo etc. All this I'm told is just because of the brain trauma. Of course there is also a small risk of another stroke, although I'm only 32 and what happened was kind of a fluke. So I'm on Aspirin-therapy as well. And I just had a neuro-psych. evaluation...
My life is a mess - 2 lawyers have already told me that they are not interested in the case because I have made a really good recovery, and most people who have strokes are not as lucky. Sometimes I just don't feel all that lucky. Is it really normal to have all these illnesses appear after you get out of the hospital??? Does this sound like anything I should look into further or should I just try to get over it and concentrate on getting better?
Thanks for your time - sorry about the LONG post.

Despite major medical advances, childbirth is still a leading cause of death in women. Over 500,000 women a year die due to complications from pregnancy and delivery.
What happend to you was indeed"a fluke". Without reading all the records I cannot comment on how the retained placenta was removed. Although i know you are unhappy because you are unable to bear any more children, the fact remains that you are making a good recovery. Trauma and psychogenic implications of this magnitude do take a great deal of time to heal.
You cannot ascribe fault to anyone. Do concentrate on getting better.
