Unable to get legal records of my case

What is the name of your state? NJ
I have reason to believe the transcript of a medical malpractice suit which I lost in 1991 had been tampered with. Some vital information is missing and words I never said appear in the text. It is my understanding that all court proceedings are recorded on stenotape and by tape recorder. I requested the stenotape and all of the audiotapes from the trial but did not get everything. Some of the recording differs from the the transcript, and I was not given the stenotape at all. The chief court clerk told me that audiotapes are destroyed after 5 years but stenotapes and papers are held for 30 years, yet they could not be located anywhere. Isn't it my legal right to have these records? I believe my lawyer sabotaged my case by siding with the defense but have no proof to pursue legal action further.

In another matter, in 1997 I hired a different lawyer to look over the case records I had (2 cartons full of papers) and he told me I had a valid legal malpractice case against the above lawyer. I paid him approximately $26,000 for expert witness fees, etc. He did not do much work on this case and summary judgment was granted in 1998 (after being denied 3 times prior for lack of information). I was not informed of this decision until 2001, and was constantly told he was working on it every time I inquired about progress. Since last year I have been trying to get back the paperwork I supplied him with and made numerous appointments, but each time he cancelled them or was not available when I showed up at his office. What do I have to do to get him to return my property?
