Cool

I had a prescription about 3 years ago for Valtrex to control cold sores/herpe break outs. I was given a very large dose - 1000 mg. twice daily for a year. It was a prevention program and none of the side effects of Valtrex was explained. That summer my "drivers" arm got sunburned while driving. My entire arm was covered with cold sore type sores the next day. I asked my doctor about it and he had no clue. I changed jobs without medical insurance and quit taking the Valtrex. The next summer without taking it anymore I had gotten a bit of sun and broke out on my chest, shoulders, back, arms, legs - almost everywhere I had sun with these same sores. I emailed Valtrexs' Co. and asked them what could be done about it if I'm no longer taking it anymore?! The emailed back that the side effect was something photo sensititivity and that it is a documented side effect and a coupon for more Valtrex.
Well I was never told, nor never knew that I would never be able to go out into the sun ever again and photo sensititivity was never explained to me by anyone.
Do I have a case to sue?
Please help, just moved to sunny Florida...
TIA

Generally, not only is the physician who prescribed the Valtrex supposed to warn you of such side effects, but also the pharmacy that filled the prescription. Most of them put little pamplets in the prescription bag that go into quite a bit of detail regarding the medication, the possible side effects, and what you should do if you have a side effect from the medication.

If neither the doctor or the pharmacist provided you with "patient education", you may have a claim for negligence. Contact a medical malpractice/negligence attorney ASAP. I'm not sure what the statute of limitations is, but it may already be too late to file a claim.
