medical/legal opinion St. of Ms.
A month or so ago you both replied to a post my husband submitted. It concerned Haldol. I realize you review many post so I'll do my best to refresh your memory while staying as brief as possible. Since my husbands post we have been able to obtain Dr.s records.
I have been diagnosed with COPD. In an effort to relieve my anxiety associated with asthma attacks my primary DR. prescribed Haldol. Two days after taking my initial dose I had extreme difficulty breathing and had to be rushed to ER. After stabilization I was admitted to ICU where I remained for 2 days, then transferred to a regular care room. On the 4 day I developed what I now know to be NMS. Apparently my Dr., the same Dr. that prescribed Haldol, was unfamiliar with this condition. After medically ruling out stroke and seizure he diagnosed my condition as paranoid psychosis and ordered my immediate transfer to a mental hospital. This is where the diagnosis of NMS was made by the admitting psychistrist. From what I understand I had all the classic symptoms except high fever. In an effort to save space I won't go into the experience at this hospital. I guess I have a 2 fold question. First, are their any similaraties in NMS and paranoid psychosis and secondly should't my primary care Dr. be held accountable for his mis-diagnosis? Thank you.
