Academy Collection Service, Inc.

Indiana

I received a letter in the mail from this company today only saying "This is to advise you that your account has been transferred to our office for collection by Pallino Receivables Ii, Llc, (ING NATIONAL GROUP, LLC)." This is for 430.48 and I have no idea what it is for.

I was going to call the company and find out what this was but I did a search online for them and really don't think they are someone I want to deal with. They have habits of calling family members, continually calling, and OMG.. some of the remarks by people that they have said... One post here at FA talks about it and the guy at the agency asked the man "what took you so long to answer your phone?"... One consumer claims that the guy from the agency asked her what corner she was standing on that night to pay the debt!

One site suggested ignoring them that they seem to not last long, just annoying. Is this a good tactic?

I am a member of credit keeper and I have not received anything about anything like this being reported so I'm curious what this debt is, however I refuse to be treated the way it sounds they do.

Does sending a letter to verify the debt open a whole can of worms or should I do as suggested and let it go? I've been working hard to build my credit up and this would bite!

Q: Does sending a letter to verify the debt open a whole can of worms or should I do as suggested and let it go?

A: I think you should ask for verification.

But stand by for other opinions.

Follow SJ's advice and seek validation of the debt. Don't believe 90% of what you read from debtors about CAs on the web.

You said you have been trying to clean up your credit. Ignoring the CA doesn't seem like the way to do that.

Well the reason I was considering the ignore thing is that there was information that this company doesn't hold on to them for very long and sells them to another.

I also thought with Credit Keeper if it's reported they will let me know and I have the ability to dispute or validate through them rather than put up with this company.

I have tried and tried to think and I MIGHT know what this is. I think it's a very old account from Fingerhut that RMS had for a bit and the reason I didn't deal with them was because while I was working on paying things off on my credit this was really far down and doesn't have too long before it should be charged off. If this is that, the last payment was made in 1998 or 1999.

How do you figure? When something is changed on my report (negative reported or my score goes up or down) I get a letter in the mail, with a dispute form.

That has nothing to do with the debt -- only the CRA. If you want to validate or dispute a debt you have contact the CA yourself.
