After a Spouse dies**************

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Nebraska

Is the surviving spouse responsible for hospital bills of the deceased spouse?
The surviving spouse is on social security and the deceased spouse had no estate or will.

Thank you

In Nebraska the spouse is responsible for necessaries. Necessaries include medical expenses. There may be a law that states only the surviving spouses property is responsible for the bill and that spouse does not take on personal liability as per Dreamer v. Oberlander, 122 Neb. 335, 240 N.W. 435

I don't understand the response EX: Dreamer v. Oberlander, 122 Neb. 335, 240 N.W. 435

Just want to know if the surviving spouse is responsible for the medical debts of the spouse that passed away. To my knowledge the surviving spouse did not agree to pay the debt in case of death.
Thanks.

Yes, it is very likely that you would be held responsible for your spouse's medical bills if you were sued after his death.
