Bad Checks 2002

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? TX

Hello,

I wrote some bad checks back in 2002. Now I have a collections company contacting me and coming to my door trying to collect the money. When I speak to them on the phone they will not tell me the amounts owed. These checks would have been for fairly small amounts.

When I called them they were threatening to turn these checks over to the district attorney and have me prosecuted.

My questions is this (I'm in Houston, TX):

It has been 6 years since these checks were written. It is a collection company that has the checks, can they press charges?

Since these are checks are they held to the same standard as other bill collectors?

Any help on these questions would be appreciated.What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?
