Thanks so much for any information on this topic.
We hired a contractor to install a whole-house dehumidifier in our basement. We had a contract that specified the exact work that was to occur and the contract required a deposit. We paid the deposit in full and the contractors claimed to complete the required work. However, we later had a second contractor in a few weeks after this first job and he found that the work was not done properly. The dehumidifer was not installed correctly and would only work in the basement. We also had holes cut out of our walls that were not necessary and the workers left an absolute mess. We refused to pay the remaining balance until the work was done correctly. My husband also spoke to a factory representative for the dehumidifier who also confirmed it was not installed properly.
The original contractor refused to come back out and turned the balance due over to a collection agency. We have sent the contract to them and stated our side of the case, but they continue to call. What can we do to mitigate this?
