Can/ Does your credit history follow you to another countryWhat is the name of your state?I have lived in Florida for many years. I have recently moved to Europe. I have a 2 year visa. I have some credit debt and I have about $35,000 in student loans. I want to resolve this as best as I can. I don't know what to do or who to go to...I don't want it to look like I am running away from my debt. What steps should I take. Should I consider bankruptcy? Would that hurt my chances of eventually getting permanentt citizenship in my European country that is part of the EU. What type of lawyer should I seek...bankruptcy and international law... Can somebody please point me in the write direction.... Thank you ![]() |

| If you're not here in the US, you can't file for bankruptcy. You MUST be a resident and you MUST be at the 341 meeting IN PERSON. Given the nature of international banking these days, its possible your credit card debt could follow you. I don't know about the student loans, but I can tell you those will never go away, they will follow you to your grave if left unpaid.
