Question

Can they?

What is the name of your state? New York City

Can they garnish my wages if I am single head of household?

They have to be awarded a judgment first, but yes, they can.

Exactly. They have to obtain a judgement against you before being able to garnish the wages. Look at the amount of the debt and see if you can settle out of court for a given dollar before anything happens. What is the dollar amount owed? Is a collection agency threatening to pursue judgement or the original creditor?

Thanks for your response actually there are two judgements against me one I just finished paying the other is for a little under $1000 but I don't have the money right now but I just wouldn't like them to garnish my wages .
