car has been repo, can wages be garnished


What is the name of your state? Michigan
The finance company took repossession of my car a lil over two months ago, at first they said I stilled owed them $7599, but after selling at auction they say I now owe $5999 and they have offered to let me make payments I made a few payments but I can not really afford to continue to make them n they will not accept anything lower, I know the car is only woth about $2000 it's a 02 grand am with very high miles and the body was not in great shape when i brought it... my question is can they garnish my wages they keep telling me that they can take up to 50% of my income.... One dealer told me that they can not garnish my wages and to just stop paying them. I want to pay but I can afford what they want.

they can't take anything until they sue you and are awarded a judgment in court.

Then, they must apply for permission to garnish.
