Cell Stolen, Do I have to pay

What is the name of your state? ny

i live in new york and am training in the virgin islands to be a solar electrician. i lost my phone working on my apartment and someone else must have found it. assuming it was in the vasinity of my apartment i didn't cancel it. when i got the first bill it was $2,000. i called and explained the story and canceled the phone, at that time they told me international calls were made and that i turned it on with my social security. i asked to here a copy of the tape, due to fright of identity theft and they said they would call the next day at a set up time, if not the day after that at a secondary time. they never called. i reapidilly called until i spoke to someone whom told me that it wasn't international calls, but calls made internationally which does not need to be turned on with a social number. then i was told that they took of $900, which i was not happy about so i asked to cancel my contract and send me a new bill with the cancelation fee. i was and still am willing to pay for all but international calls wether too, or from within. $300 of which are calls i haven't made and am willing to give another $175 for the cancelation fee. they sent me two new bills, one for $1,100(expected, but no cacilation fee was added like requested), and one for more calls totalling $3,000. i can't afford this. if anyone can help i would be so gratefull, this will financially destroy me if i have to pay these bills. please help. What is the name of your state?

Your post is very hard to follow and understand.

Generally, you are responsible for the usage of a cell phone you contracted in your name. It was your phone and the phone company has no way to know you lost it and they have no way that it is not you making the calls.

If you are not responsible, who do you think should suck up the loss on this?

Why do you think this is the fault of anyone other than yourself?

Try a complaint at www.fcc.gov (there's a link for file a complaint on the left side of the screen somewhere...I'd give you the direct link but the FCC site seems to be down for now). This will usually (slowly) route your complaint to someone with a bit of sanity in the corporate top office.

This person LOST his cell phone (allegedly), but never told the carrier. He then received a high-ass bill, and doesn't want to pay it. He is offering to pay the termination fee of $175 in exchange for removal of the additional calls that he didn't make, however, they are under no obligation to remove legitimate charges. The charges are legitimate since the OP never contacted the carrier to report the lost phone.
