clerical errorWhat is the name of your state?TN but the problemis in IN I went to Indiana University on a "Teachers scholarship" program. I could teach in Indiana for ten years or repay plus interest. I graduated in 1993 with a degree in early childhood education. I was misinformed that "preschool does not count" and put into the repayment program. When seeking a medical deferment, I gained access to information that clearly shows that accredited preschools qualify for work exchange repayment. A consumer credit counselor told me to not pay and to sue for damages if they came after my creditscore. I have received a request to eiter renew medical deferment or continue paying. What are my options? |

To Senior JudgeI think what he is asking is this: He went to college in IN on a scholarship. He had 2 ways to repay this scholarship: 1. teach in IN for 10 years ("work exchange repayment") OR 2. repay the money, plus interest He started teaching at a pre-school. He was previously told that teaching at a pre-school does not count towards option #1. Therefore, he started making payments to repay the loan. At some point he was able to find out that teaching at a pre-school is an acceptable method of teaching in exchange for reducing what he owes the program. Now, how does he go about correcting this mistake? That is his question. OP, I don't think you should simply stop payment to solve the problem. I would contact someone from the original program, as a start. |
